Food label
guidance...
As part of the FBB experience, we know how important it is to keep track of food labels, to ensure you are making the best nutritional choices.

Many details on food packaging, can
be very confusing with statements such as
"fat free" or "low sugar".

Although items claim to be "Fat free" check the ingredients list for added sugar, which is often used to replace the fat.
Equally if an item claims to be "Sugar free" this may be replaced by fats.
Low saturated fat = 3g or less of fat per 100g.
Low sugar = 5g of sugar per 100g.

Even if an item claim to have "No added sugar": there may naturally occurring sugar in the food (especially fruit based products).
Reduced fat or sugar: is generally 30 per cent less fat or sugar than the standard version of the product.
But this does not necessarily mean it is healthy which means the light version of the product can contain the same amount of calories and fat as the full fat or sugar version of another brand.
